SETTING UP YOUR NEW PLACE

Utilities- depending upon your lease, you may be responsible for paying the "utilities" also referred to as electricity, heating, and cooking gas. To turn on the electricity (or have service registered in your name) call Com Ed (800) 334-7661. It is always a good idea to call before you are scheduled to move in to avoid any delays.

Contact People's Gas (312) 240-7000 or Nicor (888) 642-6748 to turn on heat or cooking gas.

Where to find the best deals? Check with your CSW too!!
The dollar store can be useful when searching for items such as household cleaning supplies, laundry baskets, trash cans, and other nick nacks. Kmart/Target/Walmart can be useful for bed in a bags, lamps, towels, kitchen items, bathroom items, and cleaning supplies. The Salvation Army, Discount Furniture Stores, and used Hotel Furniture stores can be helpful when looking for furniture items. Some stores have great used furniture for cheap!!

"Start-Up Funds"- Pathways does provide funding for basic household items. Participants are encouraged to use thier employment income to budget and pay for items in addition to those provided by Pathways.
